How to care for Lavender
Lavandula angustifolia
Written by Benjamin — a plant parent, not a search engine.
How often should I water Lavender, and what light does it need?
Lavender wants sun, dry roots, and good air circulation — think Mediterranean hillside, not humid living room. Overwatering is the quickest way to kill it. Water it every 7–10 days while it is growing and every 14–21 days in winter, always checking the soil first. Give it direct sun. It is toxic to cats and/or dogs — more detail below.

The short version
The one-sentence rule
Water deeply but infrequently — lavender hates wet feet. Let the soil dry out fully and give it the brightest spot you have.
Light, made concrete
What direct sun actually means
Direct sun — a sunny south or west sill, several hours of true sunlight a day. Perfect for succulents, cacti and aloe.
Pet safety
Is Lavender toxic to cats or dogs?
Yes — Can cause nausea, vomiting, and appetite loss in pets. If your pet chews the plant, expect possible mouth irritation or an upset stomach, and call your vet if symptoms are more than mild. Keep it out of reach where you can.
